Depending on whom you ask, Jack "Oblivian" Yarber is either a rock legend or an absolute unknown. This dichotomy is well-understood by Memphis musicians, as underground "fame," for all its rewards, has, with a few exceptions, been the ceiling for local acts for decades. And no one knows this dichotomy better than Yarber, who may be Memphis' most influential active rock musician.

Aside from his own records, the list of noteworthy bands Yarber has been a member of over the years is massive and includes Johnny Vomit & the Dry Heaves (a high school punk project that also featured future Squirrel Nut Zipper Jimbo Mathus), ‘80s new-wavers the End, '68 Comeback, Knaughty Knights, and Tav Falco's Panther Burns. Two of Yarber's former bands — the Compulsive Gamblers and the Oblivians — have seen their reputation and following swell in the decade since their demise, especially the Oblivians, whose international fan base borders on rabid. Due largely to his stint in these bands, both partnerships with Greg Cartwright, now of the Reigning Sound, Yarber has been an acknowledged influence on artists such as the White Stripes, the Hives and Jay Reatard

Set and Setting are an instrumental band from St. Petersburg Florida, whose work encompasses drone and ambient music to experimental rock and metal. Their debut album "Equanimity", was issued in 2013 via Science of Silence Records, which they supported with the effort of DIY touring throughout the underground and extreme music scenes in all of the U.S. and parts of Canada. In 2014, Set and Setting released their second album, "A Vivid Memory" via Prosthetic Records and continued to tour internationally and locally with bands such as Mouth of the Architect, EyeHateGod, Inter Arma, and Kayo Dot throughout 2015. 2016 brought a tough year of writing and recording while battling injuries within the band limiting live performances. The beginning of 2017 brought Set and Setting's third full-length album, "Reflectionless" along with a European Tour and a stop at the renown Dunk!Festival in Belgium.

Bloodshot Bill

Night One Friday October 13th

Described by guitar legend Jeff Beck as “a cross between the Yardbirds and the Sex Pistols”, Legendary Shack Shakers has obviously earned quite a name for itself. The band’s hell-for-leather roadshow is infamous for its unique brand of Southern Gothic that is all-at-once irreverent, revisionist, soulful, dangerous, and fun.

Led by their wildly charismatic, rail-thin frontman/blues-harpist, J.D. Wilkes, the Shack Shakers are a four-man wrecking crew from the South whose explosive interpretations of the blues, punk, rock and country have made fans, critics and legions of potential converts into true believers.

Black Irish Texas

Pretty Please

Hot Wives

9pm/$8

Black Irish Texas: Emerging from the local cut-throat and highly competitive music scene of Austin, comes Black Irish Texas. And out of the proclaimed live music capital of the world they have exploded on the scene like a whiskey drenched force to be reckoned with. They have shared the stage with such International acts as Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly, Social Distortion, and the Street Dogs just to name a few, as well as local Austin legends such as the Dicks and the Flametrick Subs.

Pretty Please are a three piece from Atlanta that play loud. Very loud. They formed in 2012, and are quickly gaining notoriety in the Atlanta noise rock scene for their ferocious live shows. The band manages to mix noise rock and sludge with a chaotic, dissonant punk, while still keeping melody in mind.

“Hot Wives walk a fine tightrope between aggressive alt rock and punk-inflected noise that’s both propulsive and punishing.” Immersive Atlanta
